Wine. It's Not Just For Drinking...

I'm really trying to get in the holiday spirit.  Really.  I decided that maybe the smell of good things baking might help accelerate that process.  It couldn't hurt, right?  I saw a recipe for Butterscotch Cookies in a Cook's Country magazine that didn't look too terribly difficult.  It was like making your own 'cut and bake' cookies.  I like butterscotch and I like cut and bake...so why not?

It seemed to be a fairly painless process.  I was moving right along until I hit the parchment paper snag. Can someone please explain to me why the good folks at Reynolds wind that dang paper so tight? I couldn't keep the paper from rolling so I could place my newly formed log on it.  Very frustrating and not helping my lack of holiday spirit.  Normally, I would grab a kid or two that are running around to assist, but I didn't seem to have any handy, or they were ignoring me (it's more than likely the latter).  What's a girl to do?  This girl drinks wine.

That's when it hit me...I knew when I poured that glass of wine it would help.  I'll just use the to wine to help me with this parchment paper dilemma.  That and my remote control and I was back in business.  Who knew wine could be so practical?

I finished up the cookies. They were actually really good and paired nicely with the Cabernet I was drinking.  And with the exception of the tightly wound parchment paper....not too difficult. Mine weren't nearly as round and perfect as the Cook's Country folk's, but they probably had someone around to help out.  Funny how when the cookies were finished the kids suddenly found themselves available...hmph.
